New Jersey Boy with Autism Gains a New Sense of Accomplishment
Six-year-old Gabriel was a handful. When he didn’t like the food his mother served at dinner, he would throw it, creating a big mess and adding chaos to family mealtime.
This was standard behavior for Gabriel.
With his poor communication skills, he expressed himself through physical aggression, including kicking, hitting, and throwing objects. He struggled to communicate with anyone including those closest to him and often reverted into his own world.
He didn’t get along with his peers and avoided interacting with them. As a result, he had no friends.
His parents, Jacob and Sara, reported that it was impossible to take him anywhere due to his unpredictable behavior. Daily life had become unbearable.
Jacob and Sara felt hopeless, believing they had “tried it all”.

The Day Everything Changed
While Jacob and Sara doubted the success of yet another treatment, they reluctantly brought Gabriel to Triumph Behavior Support on October 13th, 2020 to receive applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy.
The clinical team at Triumph immediately created a treatment plan for Gabriel with an emphasis on natural environment teaching (NET). NET is often used successfully to reinforce positive behavior and to generalize skills quickly. Rachel Weiss, his therapist, also used discrete trial training (DTT), social skills training, modeling, and prompting among other approaches.
Results
Gabriel has made incredible progress. After eight months of therapy, he can now express himself verbally and responds when spoken to. His aggressive and disruptive behavior has completely disappeared.
Gabriel appears more settled and brims with a sense of accomplishment.
Jacob and Sara cannot believe Gabriel’s progress and have committed to keeping Gabriel in therapy until he has mastered all of his goals. They have shared with the Triumph team more than once —
“We have no words to express our feelings.” In addition to giving them their son back, they have gained their own lives back as well.
Gabriel’s parents attribute his astonishing progress to Triumph’s very devoted staff.
“The BCBA and ABA therapists had such strong feelings and connection to Gabriel that they did whatever it took to achieve results.”

Jacob and Sara’s Secret to Success
Having a child with Autism changes your life forever. Daily living becomes much harder than it was before. Parents of kids on the Spectrum often find their marriages strained, careers slowed down, and their nerves on end.
For some families, having a child with Autism means being unable to go on vacation, unable to enjoy normal family time at home, and feeling just plain stuck.
Yet that’s no reason to go a day longer than you have to without seeking out the resources your child needs. Jacob and Sara chose to take action and get help. That made all the difference.
Finding Meaning In The Challenge
Nobody will ever know what if feels like to be you, living your life with a child who has Autism. What some parents find is that it helps them to think about their situation in a positive light. They ask themselves:
“Who can I become, and how can I grow, through this experience?”
Other parents find that being proactive, thoughtful, and decisive gives them a sense of meaning and purpose.
At Triumph, we’re always here for the parents we work with to support them through the challenges they face. Part of our dedication to parents includes parent coaching, so that you can learn new shortcuts and strategies to improve your daily life.

There’s Hope for Every Child
In our experience working with kids on the Spectrum, we found that every child can enhance their life skills, social skills, and communication skills when given the attention and help they need.
Some kids advance faster, others slower, but they all make progress.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy is backed by decades of research and real-world results. Pediatricians refer kids with Autism to ABA therapy more than any other intervention.
In recent years, ABA programs have popped up at universities across the country. Cutting edge research is performed all the time and new advances are made yearly.
There has never been a better time for a child with Autism to benefit from a science-based yet warm and nurturing approach to enhance their happiness and quality of life.
Besides, insurance covers ABA therapy, making it very affordable for families on a budget. We accept Antea, Amerigroup, and Medicaid.
